Channeling the expansive skyline of the Clarksburg area, this Chenin Blanc was fermented in neutral French barrels with ambient yeast and allowed to complete full malolactic conversion. A slightly warmer fermentation and gentle suspension of lees has allowed a depth of fruit flavour and rich mouthfeel. White peach, sweet almond and a refreshingly balanced finish makes this wine a flexible pairing with many foods.
Clarksburg is a rich farmland surrounded by the Sacramento River delta. Days are warm, but the nights are cooled by heavy fog rolling in from nearby San Francisco Bay. Similar to Australia's Riverland, recent history has painted Clarksburg as focussing more on quantity than quality. However, this is quickly changing with an energised generation of farmers reigniting interest in the Californian table wines grown here for generations. This vineyard, just ten minutes south of Sacramento, is a testament to the bright future and renewed respect for the Clarksburg viticultural area.
